Glenview Goslings

For the past several weeks a mother goose has been dutifully sitting on her nest under the pine tree in the north corner of the courtyard of my building. On Monday morning, I got my first glimpse of the hatched goslings. A total of six.

They paraded around the perimeter of the courtyard several times, stopping to rest now and again. I caught some pictures of them from one of the windows in the office. Most of the chicks were resting under their mother's wing. But one was hanging out by dad.

Interesting facts:
  • In all the time that the mother was tending to the nest, I never once saw the father. But he showed up once the chicks were hatched. I'm guessing he was perched somewhere where he could watch over the mother and nest.
  • After taking several more trips around the D courtyard, parents and babies made their way up the stairs and to the main level, outside the cafeteria. I didn't see or hear what happened from then, but I'm guessing they made their way through Tall Trees to the river.
  • One egg did not hatch. I guess it was a "goose egg" (ba-dum-bum). But the next day it was gone. What happened? Did it finally hatch? Did something (or someone) get to it or take it? I don't know.
Enjoy these pictures and video.
